The Heureka system includes a “climate growth response model”, which takes into account effects of climate change on growth. A pre-processed climate scenario is used as input, which is really a growth change scenario. A scenario describes how a climate change will affect growth. The scenarios available for Heureka have been calculated by an external model called BIOMASS, with climate scenarios developed by the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute (SMHI) as input.

The climate scenarios are run for the whole of Sweden in a 50 x 50 km grid. They describe changes in the temperate sum over a five-year period in each grid cell, and provide function parameters for each tree species and soil moisture class. These function parameters are used in a model in Heureka that calculates growth changes for each stand.

To use the climate model you must:

1.Import climate scenario to the forest database, and
2.Activate use of the model in the Climate Model Control table by setting ApplyClimateResponse = True (1), and selecting an imported scenario under ClimateScenario (2).
