Release date: 2012-06-19

Since version 1.8, several minor updates have been released (1.8.1 to 1.8.4). This release note summarizes all changes since 1.8

New features

  • To save disc space usage required by the result database when running PlanWise and RegWise, individual result variables can be selected instead of whole result categories. For example, you can choose to save only Species Data.Volume instead of the entire Species Data result category. When you run a simulation you should pay careful attention to select all variables that you want to include in optimization models and reports! Some basic variables are always selected by default (and cannot be de-selected), such as volume, harvest volume, treatment, and net present value.
  • It is possible to simulate "partial" thinning, i.e, to simulate thinning on only a subset of the plots in a stand. This requires of course that a stand has more than one plot (which applies if you have imported FMPP data).
  • New result variables:
    • "C:N ratio in Soil"
    • "TotalCarbon" now summarizes carbon content in both trees and soil, before you had to calculate carbon content in trees from biomas values manually.
  • You can import an existing tree layer as retention trees, meaning that they will not be harvested (according to "RetentionTime" control table NatureConservation, see [1]). You can do this by adding a layer for stand with code 6 in the stand register excel sheet (applies to stand register template versions 2 and later, see [2]). When entering a tree lists manually in Register Tree Data (see Heureka Help, section Importera enstaka bestånd), you enter tree type code as "Retention Tree" or "Naturvårdsträd".

Improvements

  • Stand register version 3 (ImportTemplate_ver3.xlsm) has a built-in macro for exporting csv-files, just press a button when the data has been entered. Instructions and variable explanations are also found in the Excel-document.
  • You can now use copy/paste for items in an optimization model (via right-clicking for context menu).
  • When entering stand data manually ([3]) you can let the program simulate tree lists. Now you can enter mean height for each species, which will be used for calibrating mean height. This is the same functionality as when importing a stand register ([4]).
  • Calculation of soil carbon and nitrogen with the Q-model has been scrutinized, and errors have been fixed. Litter from dead trees is now also included in the litter production model used for calculating soil carbon and nitrogen, as well as litter from trees cut when cleaning.
  • Biomass functions are only available for pine, spruce and birch, and other deciduous species than have used the birch function. Biomass conversion factors have been implemented for woody parts for other species, for example oak and beech now get larger densities than birch, and aspen lower.
  • More part of the user interface have been translated to Swedish.
  • The tree images in StandWise has been replaced with better-looking ones! For this, we thank Jonas Jonzén at SLU.

Bug fixes

  • Carbon in dead wood now includes all mortality in established stands, not only trees with a minimum diameter of 10 cm. The minimum diameter limit is only used when calculating the volume of coarse woody debris (volume per decayclass, standing and lying).
  • Biomass in roots and stumps is now calculated with Petersson & Ståhl (2006) instead of Petersson (1996) (see Kolanalyser). Set "stump utilization" to 90 % to simulate stump extraction (read more here: [5], under section "Styrning av biobränsleuttag").
  • The input dialog for single stands (see Register Tree Data [6], has been changed so that you enter specific species codes, instead of species groups.
